Why our Brains are Starving and What That Does to our Mental Health

March 3, 2022

Join guest speaker, Dr. Kaplan, to learn the vital role nutrition plays in feeding your brain to stabilize your mood, stave off depression, and make yourself more resilient to daily stress.

Explore the scientific basis explaining how and why nutrition is the foundation for good mental health. For instance, robust scientific research demonstrates that nutrition-based interventions result in significant mood improvement in at least one-third of people with depression. Other studies show that a youngster’s dietary pattern predicts their risk for developing a mental disorder two years later. Many other studies show that nutrition education should be the first-line treatment, prior to any type of behavioural, social, or pharmaceutical therapy. In addition, studies of population groups following earthquakes, a flood, and a mass shooting show the importance of considering nutrition as a source of resilience during times of crisis or stress.
